It's true:
The Naples Orchestra and Chorus, known officially as I Musici Di Napoli, Inc., is the only non-profit volunteer organization that has been bringing free quality classical and popular music to Naples and its environs since 1993.
Talented local musicians and singers perform for personal satisfaction and growth. The community profits by being enriched culturally as well as being entertained by concerts to suit a variety of tastes.
The 2007-2008 season, our 14th, shaped up to be one of our best. Guest conductors brought to the podium new ways of listening to music and to the sound of voices...meaning, melody, and mood. And we ended the season by appointing Robert Dale Herrema as Musical Director and Conductor.
A few of the works performed during the 2007-2008 season were:
William Grant Still Romance, adapted by Douglas Yeo for classical saxophone and orchestra, featuring Adam Muller.
"Ani Ma'amin," a traditional Jewish song, a commissioned new arrangement by Paul Caldwell & Sean Ivory.
Felix Mendelssohn "There Shall Be A Star" from "Jacob Come Forth," from Christus
Ludwig von Beethoven Overture to Egmont
Ludwig von Beethoven: Choral Fantasia, with Laura Fernando as piano soloist
George Gershwin: An American in Paris Suite, arranged by John Whitney
Richard Rogers: Richard Rogers in Concert, arr. by Mac Huff and Paul Murtha
"Songs by Sinatra" arr. by John Giacco - with vocal soloist, Don Juceam
And some from the 2006-2007 season:
Ludwig von Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 2 - with Lan Lam, piano soloist
Gian Carlo Menotti"Shepherd's Chorus" from Ahmal and the Night Visitors - with chorus
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Symphony No. 41, "The Jupiter"
Harold Arlen Get Happy, arranged for string orchestra by John Giacco
Miles Remembered [A Tribute to Miles Davis] arr. for trumpet and orchestra by John Giacco
Andrew Lloyd Webber A Concert Celebration, arr. Mark Brymer and Calvin Custer, - with chorus
In addition to providing pleasure for its members and for folks in the community, I Musici Di Napoli also offers an opportunity for young musicians to play with the orchestra. The most deserving among them are awarded scholarship funds so that they can continue their musical studies.
Our concerts are scheduled for Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon and are held in the beautiful auditorium of the new Golden Gate High School. Special concerts that feature "The Seven Last Words of Christ" are held in local churches.
